NEW DELHI: The Indian Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Saturday said it has worked closely with Cambodian authorities to safely rescue 14 Indian nationals who were lured into cybercrime after falling victim to fraudulent job offers in India.
The Indian Embassy in Cambodia shared X’s post and said, “The Indian Embassy in Cambodia has collaborated with the Cambodian authorities to release 14 Indian nationals caught up in a cybercrime scam. They are in Cambodian custody. The Embassy is committed to their early return and will remain committed to their welfare.”
The Embassy has so far successfully rescued and repatriated over 650 Indian nationals who were victims of such scams.
“The Indian Embassy in Phnom Penh is actively rescuing Indian nationals from fraudulent job offers in Cambodia that lure them into cybercrime. The Embassy has worked closely with the Cambodian authorities to facilitate the rescue and repatriation of over 650 Indian nationals who fell victim to such scams,” the embassy said in a statement.
“Recently, the embassy has provided specific information to the Cambodian police which led to the rescue of 14 more Indian victims, who are now being looked after by NGOs working in coordination with the Cambodian Ministry of Social Welfare, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation,” it added.
The Indian Embassy is in constant touch with the Cambodian authorities to facilitate the safe and speedy return of the 14 rescued Indian nationals and urges that all necessary formalities be completed expeditiously to ensure their safe return to India.
The embassy further advised Indian nationals to exercise extreme caution when considering employment in Cambodia and to immediately report any suspicious activity or concerns to the embassy.
