Phnom Penh, Cambodia The family bond between Angelina Jolie and her son Maddox has grown even stronger.
A royal decree recognising Jolie, who starred in the “Tomb Raider” film series, as Cambodian nationality was signed by King Norodom Sihamoni on July 31, Sok Sam Oung of the Council of Ministers said on Friday.
Sok Sam Oung said he was in the process of notifying Jolie, 30, of her new nationality through her contacts in Cambodia.
Jolie, who adopted Maddox from Cambodia in 2002, has donated $1.5 million to the community development organization Cambodian Vision in Development to help protect the environment in remote areas of northwestern Cambodia.
Prime Minister Hun Sen granted Jolie citizenship in recognition of her generosity during a visit to the country last summer.
He said Jolie deserved citizenship “not because of the money she donated, but because of her kind heart and love for the Cambodian people she helped.”
Scenes for Jolie’s 2001 film “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” were filmed at Cambodia’s famous Angkor Wat temple complex.
Jolie adopted her daughter, Zahara, from Ethiopia last month.
