The People’s Committee of Ha Giang province said that according to the report of the provincial Department of Foreign Affairs and information from the Foreign Affairs Office of Van Son district (China), China will discharge floodwaters from hydropower plants from 11:00 a.m. (Vietnam time) to the Lo River. Therefore, the flow will increase, and the water level will increase.
To proactively respond and minimize damage caused by increased water levels that could cause localized flooding in the city, the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ha Giang City directed communes and wards (Ngoc Duong, Phuong Do, Phuong Thien, Quang Trung, Minh Khai, Nguyen Trai, Tran Phu) to closely monitor news reports on flood discharge to proactively deploy disaster response plans, minimizing damage when disasters occur.
Previously, yesterday evening in Quyet Thang commune, Son Duong district (Tuyen Quang), a 10 meter section of the dike on the Lo river broke. During the night, authorities and local people joined in the work to repair the broken dike.
However, according to a report from the People’s Committee of Tuyen Quang province, due to the water level of the Lo River continuing to rise and flow rapidly, troubleshooting is facing many difficulties, and the broken dike has not yet been patched.
Heavy rain and the rising water level of the Lo River, exceeding the level 3 alert since the evening of September 10, have caused many areas in Tuyen Quang, especially Tuyen Quang City, to be deeply flooded. The water level measured on the Lo River in Tuyen Quang at 5:00 a.m. this morning was 27.73 m, exceeding the level 3 alert by 1.73 m.
Tuyen Quang Hydropower Reservoir currently has 6 bottom spillway gates open, the total discharge flow downstream through the bottom spillway gates and generators is about 4359 m33/S.
