Government Inspector General Doan Hong Phong has just signed and issued a report on the results of handling and responding to voters’ petitions sent before the 7th session of the 15th National Assembly. The content that many voters are interested in is the work of preventing and combating corruption.
Voters reported that many officials and party members, especially those with “power and position”, have engaged in corrupt practices, causing negative public opinion, affecting the prestige of the Party and the State, and reducing the trust of the people. These cases need to be dealt with severely.
Voters also recommended strengthening supervision and inspection to promptly detect and handle corruption cases, not allowing them to develop into serious cases; promptly taking measures to overcome the situation of “petty corruption” and harassment of businesses and people.
Serious harm
Responding to the above content, the Government Inspectorate said that the work of preventing and combating corruption and negativity has increasingly gone into depth; it is being carried out methodically and resolutely, in accordance with the viewpoint of “no forbidden zones, no exceptions, regardless of who that person is and not subject to pressure from any individual”.
In the first 6 months of 2024, Party committees and inspection committees at all levels disciplined 308 Party organizations and 11,005 Party members. The Central Executive Committee, Politburo, Secretariat, and Central Inspection Committee disciplined 47 officials under the Central Committee’s management.
The results show that a number of cadres and party members, especially those with positions, even important positions, because of chasing after material temptations and status, forgot their oath to the Party and the people, becoming “worms”, seeds of serious harm to the revolutionary cause.
This poses an urgent requirement for Party building and rectification; each cadre and Party member must self-reflect, self-reflect, self-correct, self-cultivate, and promote a pioneering and exemplary role in preventing and combating corruption and negativity.
The Government Inspectorate cited a number of cases that have been strictly handled in recent times (Viet A test kit, vehicle inspection, rescue flights, etc.). This is a warning to cadres and party members who are not yet steadfast in their character and are still wavering in the face of material temptations.
According to the Government Inspectorate, in addition to the results achieved in prevention and control work, corruption in many fields remains serious and complicated, with increasingly sophisticated manifestations.
Some agencies, organizations, units, and localities, especially leaders, have not been truly exemplary and resolute; words have not matched actions in leading, directing, and implementing anti-corruption work; there are still places where people show deference and avoidance.
Besides, “petty corruption” has caused many businesses and people to pay extra fees when carrying out administrative procedures…
Building a transparent and honest public service
To achieve more results in corruption prevention and control, the Government Inspectorate said the Government will focus on directing the implementation of many solutions in the coming time.
In particular, perfecting regulations to build a transparent, honest, and serving public service; preventing and combating corruption within agencies with anti-corruption functions; strictly handling “petty corruption”, harassment, and causing trouble for people and businesses.
At the same time, focus on inspections in areas prone to corruption and negativity; speed up the verification, investigation, prosecution, and trial of cases, and handle discovered corruption and economic cases.
In addition to its functions and tasks, the Government has also recommended that the National Assembly, National Assembly agencies, and National Assembly deputies increase questioning and thematic supervision activities on corruption prevention and control; and promptly amend and supplement legal provisions.
At the same time, it is recommended that the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuracy, the State Audit, and prosecution agencies continue to strengthen the work of detecting and handling corruption and negativity, focusing on recovering misappropriated and lost assets; resolutely not allowing corruption and negativity to occur in law enforcement agencies…
