Hanoi FC announces farewell to defender Nguyen Van Dung
In preparation for the 2024/2025 season, Hanoi FC has made strong changes in both the coaching staff and the player list. Accordingly, on the coaching bench, assistant coach Le Duc Tuan has been promoted to the role of “captain” to replace coach Daiki Iwamasa. On the player list, a series of names have left to make room for new players.
Most recently, the official fanpage of Hanoi FC announced the farewell to another veteran face, defender Nguyen Van Dung. “Thank you for the contributions of defender Nguyen Van Dung in 11 seasons with the Capital team,” the official fanpage of Hanoi FC wrote.

Nguyen Van Dung grew up in the Hanoi FC training center and was promoted to the first team in 2013. Up to now, he has had 11 professional seasons for the capital team, winning the V.League championship once, the National Cup three times and the National Super Cup three times.
In fact, before 2019, Nguyen Van Dung was almost lost among the stars of Hanoi FC and his chances of playing in the starting lineup became increasingly limited due to the rapid advancement of his “juniors”. It is estimated that if foreign players were not recruited, more than half of the registered players of the capital team at that time would have been “fed by the National Team”. Of course, among them, there was no Nguyen Van Dung, the first product of Hanoi FC’s training center.
It was not until Doan Van Hau moved to the Netherlands and Pham Duc Huy was constantly injured that coach Chu Dinh Nghiem gave Nguyen Van Dung the chance to play as a main player. At the age of 26, he had just experienced the feeling of being a main actor, and Nguyen Van Dung played quite impressively. He seemed to seize the opportunity to join Nguyen Van Quyet, Do Hung Dung or Nguyen Thanh Chung to become a spiritual support for his younger teammates. Nguyen Van Dung is left-footed, clinging to the wing opposite Tran Van Kien. Thanks to his aggressiveness, fiery playing style and especially his good understanding with his senior Nguyen Van Quyet on the left wing, he has gradually affirmed his position in a star-studded team like Hanoi FC.

However, in the last 3 seasons, with constant injuries and turning 30, Nguyen Van Dung has not contributed much to Hanoi FC. In V.League 2023/2024, this defender from Thai Binh has only played 1 match.
It is not surprising that before the 2024/2025 season, Nguyen Van Dung and Hanoi FC decided to end their 11-year relationship, especially when the capital team wanted to reform the squad for the ambition of competing for the championship next season, and also brought in defender Chu Van Kien from Ho Chi Minh City Club as a replacement.
It is not yet clear where Nguyen Van Dung will choose to continue his career, but it is likely that he will play in the First Division or he may choose to stop and study for a coaching degree when his physical strength is no longer enough to compete in high-level matches.
