The telegram stated that, in order to implement the Special Announcement of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Notice of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam on the organization of the State Funeral of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, based on Decree No. 105/2012/ND-CP dated December 17, 2012 of the Government, the Hanoi People’s Committee requested agencies and offices in the city to fly flags at half-mast during the two days of the State Funeral (July 25, 2024 and July 26, 2024). The half-mast flag is the National Flag, with a mourning band (1/10 the size of the flag’s width, length along the length of the flag) and the flag is only flown to 2/3 the height of the flagpole, tied with a black cloth band to prevent the flag from flying.
Along with that, the Hanoi People’s Committee requested organizations, individuals, and entertainment establishments to stop or postpone organizing art programs, sports competitions, and entertainment activities in Hanoi during the two days of the National Mourning (July 25, 2024 and July 26, 2024).
Previously, according to information from the Central Council of Experts on Health Protection for Officials, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trongafter a period of illness, despite the Party, State, professors and doctors’ devoted treatment and the wholehearted care of his family, due to old age and serious illness, he passed away at 13:38 on July 19, 2024 at the 108 Central Military Hospital. He was 80 years old.
The Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to organize the funeral. Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong’s coffin lies in state at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi. The funeral of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong will be held at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, starting from 07:00 to 22:00 on July 25, 2024 and from 07:00 to 13:00 on July 26, 2024.
The memorial service for comrade Nguyen Phu Trong will be held at 1:00 p.m. on July 26, 2024 at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi. The burial ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. the same day at Mai Dich Cemetery, Hanoi. The memorial service for comrade Nguyen Phu Trong will be held at the same time at Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City and at his hometown in Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi.
