On the morning of September 20, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu, Vice Chairwoman of Thanh Hoa Commune People’s Committee (Tuyen Hoa District, Quang Binh), said that the locality had evacuated 37 households in Bac Son Village 1 out of the deeply flooded area upstream of Gianh River due to the impact of storm No. 4.
Storm No. 4 made landfall, causing heavy rains that caused the water level in the upper Gianh River to rise, flooding 37 households (121 people) in Bac Son village 1. In addition, there are 3 other households in areas at risk of landslides.
All residents here were evacuated to safety by authorities last night, September 19.
“Last night, we evacuated people and property to a safe area. Heavy rain caused water levels to rise, causing flooding 3-4 meters deep in residential areas. Now we have to wait for the water to recede to implement the next plans,” said Ms. Thu.
According to Ms. Thu, Thanh Hoa commune is still experiencing heavy rain, the water level upstream of Gianh River is likely to continue to rise, and authorities have not been able to access the flooded area. Local authorities have deployed forces to be on duty and to assist people in cleaning up their houses when the water recedes.
