On September 29, after the first instance trial, the People’s Court of Quang Tri province sentenced Tran Hoang Giang (28 years old) and Tran Anh Tu (24 years old, both residing in Quang Thuan ward, Ba Don town) to death. , Quang Binh) on the charge of “illegal transportation of drugs”.
According to the indictment in court, in the early morning of December 1, 2023, the patrol team of the Drug Prevention Police Department of Quang Tri Police discovered two cars driven by Tu and Giang driving on Highway 9 from Lao Bao to the East. The section passes through Tan Lap commune (Huong Hoa).
Arriving at Khe Sanh town, when the authorities asked to stop checking, Tu’s car stopped, and Giang turned around and fled toward Lao Bao.
The authorities chased after him and discovered that Giang threw a brown bag from the car onto the roadside and continued running.
At 2:20 a.m., the authorities brought Giang and Tu back to work. Here, both admitted that they were transporting drugs so they ran away when being checked. Giang’s handbag thrown on the side of the road contained drugs.
Giang claimed that he had previously been hired by a person nicknamed “A Hai” on the social network Zalo to transport drugs from Lao Bao and agreed. When leaving, Giang invited Tu to rent a car with him to go ahead and explore the road for him.
Giang and Tu drove up to Lao Bao and were told by “A Hai” to wait at the lakeside. A moment later, a man carrying a brown bag containing drugs handed it to Giang.
“A Hai” announced that the amount of drugs in the bag was 55,000 pills, divided into many packages. This person also said that when they return to Cam Lo (Quang Tri) and Ba Don town (Quang Binh), there will be someone to receive the goods.
When Giang and Tu returned to Tan Lap commune, they were discovered by the authorities. The total amount of drugs transported by both was determined to be more than 5.3kg.
The jury judged that Giang and Tu’s behavior was dangerous to society, so they had to be permanently quarantined.
It is known that Giang has a wife and children. Tu is not married. Both have never had a criminal record.
