On September 28, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei spoke out strongly after the murder of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, affirming that his death will be avenged and the path of fighting against Israel will not end. In a statement broadcast on Iranian state television, Mr. Khamenei emphasized that Nasrallah is not just an individual, but represents “a path and a school of thought,” and this path will be followed by successful campaigns. Other soldiers followed. Mr. Khamenei also announced 5 days of national mourning in Iran.
According to Khamenei, revenge for Nasrallah is inevitable and the blood of the martyrs will not be forgotten. Previously, the Israeli army announced that it had killed Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike south of Beirut, and Hezbollah also confirmed information about his death.
Along with Nasrallah, General Abbas Nilforoushan, deputy commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, was also killed in the airstrike. The event increased tensions in the region, with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian blaming the United States for collusion with Israel, which receives much military support from Washington.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani affirmed that “Mr. Nasrallah’s path will continue” and that the goal of liberating Jerusalem remains the ideal of Hezbollah and other resistance forces in the region.
According to some sources, after the attack, Ayatollah Khamenei was taken to a safe location within Iranian territory with tightened security measures. Iran is currently in continuous contact with Hezbollah and other representative groups in the region to plan the next steps after this shocking event.
