Early on the morning of August 6, 2024, US media reported that Vice President Kamala Harris had chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate against former President Donald Trump in the presidential election this November.
“I am pleased to announce that I have made the decision: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will join the campaign as my running mate,” US Vice President Harris sent a message to her supporters.
An official announcement is expected later on August 6, ahead of a campaign event in Philadelphia featuring Harris and Walz. Harris and Walz’s campaigns will kick off with a tour of key states like Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada, which will be crucial in determining the winner of the November election.
On the other side, former President Donald Trump selected Senator JD Vance as his running mate at the Republican nominating convention last month. Senator Vance will campaign alone in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and North Carolina this week.
Kamala Harris quickly became the Democratic Party’s nominee late last month, after President Joe Biden unexpectedly announced he would not seek re-election. Biden’s campaign has faced many challenges, especially after his debate with Trump in June, which led many to call for him to drop out of the race.
Harris’s selection of Governor Tim Walz, a veteran Minnesota governor, is seen as a strategic move to shore up support and appeal to voters in key swing states. Their campaign will focus on highlighting the Democrats’ policies and commitment to creating a better future for the American people.
