The North received over 400 mm of rain.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from last night to this afternoon (September 8), there will be heavy to very heavy rain in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa. The rainfall from 7:00 p.m. on September 7 to 3:00 p.m. on September 8 was over 300 mm in some places, such as: Phinh Ho (Yen Bai) 403.4 mm, To Mua (Son La) 373.6 mm, Van Mai (Hoa Binh) 339 mm, Nam Xay 2 (Lao Cai) 320 mm, Xuan Son (Phu Tho) 301 mm.
It is forecasted that from the evening of September 8 to 9, the Northwest will have heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall ranging from 80 to 150 mm, with some places receiving over 250 mm. From the night of September 9 to 10, this area will continue to have rain with rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 mm, with some places receiving over 200 mm.
In the Northeast region and Thanh Hoa from the evening of September 8 to 9, mountainous and midland areas will have moderate rain, heavy rain, some places with very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 40 – 80 mm, some places over 150 mm. The plains and Thanh Hoa will have rain, moderate rain, some places with heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 15 – 30 mm, some places over 60 mm.
From September 9 to 10, the North and Thanh Hoa will have moderate rain, heavy rain, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 30 – 60 mm, some places over 120 mm. From the night of September 10 to 11, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain, some places very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 30 – 60 mm, some places over 100 mm.
High risk of flash floods, landslides in the following provinces: Lang Son (11 districts), Bac Kan (06 districts), Thai Nguyen (09 districts), Bac Giang (08 districts), Vinh Phuc (05 districts), Hoa Binh (11 districts), Phu Tho (09 districts), Tuyen Quang (06 districts), Yen Bai (09 districts), Son La (08 districts), Lai Chau (03 districts), Lao Cai (04 districts).
Many rivers in the North are on alert level 3.
The meteorological agency added that currently, the water levels of Thao River (Yen Bai), Luc Nam River (Bac Giang), Hoang Long River (Ninh Binh), Buoi River, and Ma River (Thanh Hoa) are rising.
In the next 12 – 24 hours, the water level on Thao River, Luc Nam River, Hoang Long River, Buoi River, Ma River will continue to rise. The flood peak on Thao River in Yen Bai, Hoang Long River in Ben De is above alert level 3, Luc Nam River in Luc Nam reaches alert level 3.
From now until September 10, on other rivers in the Northern region, Thanh Hoa will experience a flood. During this flood, the flood peak on small rivers in the northern mountainous provinces, especially Lang Son, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh, Son La provinces will rise to level 2 – 3, some rivers will be above level 3; the flood peak on Cau River, Thuong River, Buoi River, downstream of Ma River (Thanh Hoa) will rise to level 1 – 2 and above level 2.
The water level of the Red River downstream in Hanoi will rise rapidly (Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant opens bottom spillway gate No. 2, Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant opens bottom spillway gate No. 1) but is still below BĐ1.
