People’s Artist specializes in playing police leaders
People’s Artist Nguyen Viet Thang (born in 1961) is a stage actor of the Vietnam Drama Theater. In the television field, the male artist often appears in popular films with gentle, kind and upright roles.
In particular, People’s Artist Viet Thang is considered one of the male artists who plays the most police roles on Vietnamese screens. The TV series that the male artist has participated in include: Secret of the Golden Triangle, Birth and Death, Battle of Minds… All the roles played by artist Viet Thang in these films are police leaders.

People’s Artist Pham Viet Thang shared that he cannot remember how many police roles he has played. In the movie From black to white 20 years ago, he played Captain Vu Xuan Truong – a police officer who was very good at solving drug cases but later made the mistake of getting involved in drug trafficking.

Most recently in the film Mind gamehe took on the role of the Police Chief. When he was young, the male artist played the role of a soldier, and now, at the age of 50, he has acted in 6 or 7 films as a police leader.

It is known that People’s Artist Viet Thang is continuing to play the role of a police officer in the film. Milk Flower Secret just started filming. Talking about the new role, he said: “I am lucky to participate in the movie Milk Flower Secret about police officers, who always have to fight against crime, especially drug crimes which are expanding day by day. The work of police officers is getting harder and harder, even having to pay with their lives and risks in the process of solving cases. I play the role of Major General Tran Long – Director of the City Police – the person who directly directs the investigation of cases. The film is about Hanoi and the filming location is the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department of Hanoi Police.”

Sharing about the police leadership roles he has played, People’s Artist Viet Thang expressed: “Each role has a destiny, but in general, being a police leader means being the one who bears the highest responsibility for fighting crime. When playing the role of a director, in many scenes of meetings to direct the investigation, there are mandatory technical terms that cannot be wrong. For example, “allow” and “approve” are very different.

In his artistic career, People’s Artist Viet Thang has received many individual and collective awards. In 2015, he won the Gold Medal at the National Professional Drama Arts Competition (role of Tran Tien in the play Disaster). Thanks to those achievements, the male artist was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist in 2015, then the title of People’s Artist in 2019. In July 2021, People’s Artist Viet Thang retired after 43 years of dedication to the theater and television industry. Since his retirement, the male artist has not appeared on screen as much as before.

Currently, People’s Artist Viet Thang has a peaceful retired life with his children and grandchildren. It is known that the male artist has been “promoted” to the position of grandfather for 5 years now and is preparing to “promoted” to the position of maternal grandfather. He and his wife have 2 children, 1 daughter and 1 son, both of whom do not follow their father’s career, while the male artist’s wife works in the medical field.
