HANOI – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy of attaching importance to good neighbourly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainable development with Cambodia during a reception with Cambodian Supervisory Minister Phuot Hac in Hanoi on Monday.
Prime Minister Chin expressed confidence that under the wise governance of King Norodom Sihamoni, the sound policies of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) led by Chairman Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and the leadership of the government led by Prime Minister Samdech Thipady Hun Manet, Cambodia will continue to make great socio-economic achievements towards its goal of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.
Stressing that the visit was an important step in continuing to materialize the high-level agreement, the Minister praised the fruitful meeting between Foreign Minister Phuot Hac and Vietnam’s Inspector General Doan Hong Phong, and said the newly signed Memorandum of Cooperation on inspections is expected to enhance information and experience sharing in the field.
He asserted that the Vietnamese government is ready to promote cooperation between the Vietnam Government Inspectorate and the Cambodian Ministry of Inspection.
The Vietnamese leader suggested that the two sides continue to facilitate high-level visits and meetings between leaders, enhance the effectiveness of existing cooperation agreements and mechanisms, and strengthen unity and cooperation among Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
He noted that trade between the two countries approached $4 billion in the first four months of 2024, up 16.8 percent from the previous year, and said further efforts are needed to improve economic cooperation in order to achieve the goal of $20 billion in two-way trade in the near future.
PM Chinh expressed his gratitude to Cambodia for addressing the difficulties faced by ethnic Vietnamese in Cambodia, creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to enter Cambodia and enabling them to act as a bridge of friendship between the two countries.
The prime minister reaffirmed the principle of not allowing hostile forces to use either country’s territory to harm the security and interests of the other, and added that efforts should also be made to complete the remaining 16 percent of the work of border demarcation and marking, and strive to build a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development.
Meanwhile, Mr. Huot Hac agreed with PM Chinh’s proposal to strengthen solidarity and cooperation among Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. He congratulated the Vietnamese Party, state and people for their achievements in realizing the resolutions of the 13th Party Congress and national strategic development goals, which he said has led to the improvement of Vietnam’s international status.
He pledged to further deepen bilateral relations in line with the high-level agreements reached, including the outcome of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet’s official visit to Vietnam scheduled for December 2023.
