Race for market share A-size SUV segment in Vietnam The monthly competition usually only takes place between the trio KIA Sonet – Toyota Raize – Hyundai Venue with the overwhelming victory belonging to the Korean model Sonet. However, KIA Sonet can no longer maintain its top position when VinFast announced its sales for the first 6 months of 2024.
Specifically, according to VinFast Auto’s sales report, the company delivered a total of 21,747 vehicles in the first half of 2024. The Vietnamese car brand did not announce results for each market or each specific car model, but only said that Vinfast VF5 leads the segment Class A cars on the market.
Vietnam is still a key car market for VinFast, contributing about 20,000 cars to the company’s total results. Of which, the number of cars VinFast VF5 invoice leaving the factory accounted for about 65%, equivalent to about 13,000 vehicles.
The number of VF5 vehicles that have completed the registration procedures according to the registration data is about 10,200, of which the majority are new vehicles, used vehicles account for a very small proportion. The supply to taxi companies and passenger transport businesses with a quantity of up to thousands of vehicles is the main factor creating impressive sales of VF5 in the past 6 months.

Thus, whether counting the number of cars leaving the factory or cars delivered to customers, VinFast VF5 car sales lead the entire market as well as the A-size SUV segment.

The last position in the sales ranking of the A-size SUV group is Hyundai Venue with 1,515 cars chosen by Vietnamese customers. This model was also adjusted by the official distributor to a suggested retail price of 40 million VND in mid-June 2024 to increase competitiveness. After the adjustment, the price of Hyundai Venue ranges from 499 – 539 million VND, approaching the Toyota Raize.

The sales race in the A-segment SUV segment is expected to become more intense in the next phase of the year when the New Sonet updates many new upgrades but the selling price increases significantly. Along with that, the green car trend is clearly shaping the thinking of Vietnamese people when choosing a car. On the other side, Venue and Raize are also actively approaching users through the trick of discounts.
