PHNOM PENH, 19 July 2024 — Senate President Hun Sen has urged China to step up its support for Cambodia’s development in various sectors. The request was made during a meeting with newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, Wang Wenbin, at the Senate Palace this morning.
Prime Minister Hun Sen congratulated Ambassador Wang on his new role and praised the enduring friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and China, stressing the importance of trust and mutual respect in advancing bilateral relations from a strategic partnership to a comprehensive strategic partnership and then to an unwavering friendship for building a shared future.
Furthermore, the former Prime Minister reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to the “One China” policy and reiterated that issues relating to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang are China’s internal matters.
Wang praised Prime Minister Hun Sen for playing a key role in fostering strong ties between the two countries over the past three decades. The ambassador pledged to work to further strengthen socio-economic, security, military and people-to-people cooperation between Cambodia and China.
