Stunned by the destruction of a giant stadium in Malaysia
Stadium Shah Alam With a capacity of more than 80 thousand people, inaugurated in 1994 and one of the largest stadiums in Southeast Asia. After being put into use, Shah Alam Stadium was chosen by Malaysia to host many major tournaments, including U20 World Cup 1997, Asian Cup 2007 and tournaments in Southeast Asia such as AFF Cup, SEA Games.
For Vietnamese fans, Shah Alam Stadium has special memories. At the 2014 AFF Cup, the Malaysian team chose Shah Alam Stadium as their home field in the semi-final first leg. There were about 20,000 Vietnamese fans coming to the stadium to cheer for coach Toshiya Miura and his team.
It was a match where the Vietnamese team played wonderfully, overcoming great pressure from Malaysian fans to defeat the home team 2-1 in the last minutes. Disappointed by losing the match, Malaysian fans rushed to the Vietnamese fans’ area to start a fight. Security forces struggled to prevent riots from occurring, but some Vietnamese fans were still beaten to the point of bloodshed.
Although newly built not long ago, Shah Alam Stadium is seriously degraded. After many upgrades, Shah Alam Stadium closed in early 2020 to undergo complete renovation and reconstruction. However, this process was interrupted for many reasons and it is only now that investors can destroy Shah Alam Stadium.
A few days ago, the roof of Shah Alam Stadium was removed in an instant. The video footage of this image made fans stunned and excited. According to Malaysian media, a new stadium will be built right on the old ground, but scaled down to accommodate about 35,000 people.
