On May 30, Dr. Tra Anh Duy, Men’s Health Center, said that the center had just received treatment for a patient with NMT (45 years old, living in Ho Chi Minh City) due to decreased sexual desire and erectile dysfunction.
Accordingly, taking the medical history, Mr. T. said that because his wife was being treated for uterine fibroids with traditional medicine, she did not want to be intimate with her husband. However, in addition to not being allowed to have sex with his wife, he was also blamed by his wife and had his phone checked every day.
The period lasted about 1 year with the daily threat making him increasingly depressed, having anxiety disorder and having to go to a psychiatric specialist for treatment. Currently, the anxiety disorder is stable but Mr. T. has lost his sexual desire and is no longer able to have an erection.
At the center, he was examined and treated. His condition is now gradually improving. However, Mr. T. and his wife need to consult a doctor about the problem of prolonged stress in their sex life so that they can work together to relieve it and get back in harmony.
In a similar case, Mr. LTM (32 years old, living in Long An) also suffered from sexual dysfunction due to the pressure to have children because he had been trying for more than a year but had no good news. Mr. M. said that his wife was 38 years old and wanted a child but refused to go to the infertility clinic.
Meanwhile, every day, he had to listen to his wife blame him for his own fault in not being able to get pregnant. This made Mr. M. stressed and tired because every day his wife forced him to go to many places for check-ups.
The prolonged condition caused him to lose his sexual desire.
After examining and testing his reproductive health and endocrine system, the doctors concluded that Mr. M’s semen analysis results were good, but due to prolonged stress, he lost his sexual desire and “did not complete his mission”, feeling afraid of having to “do his homework”. After treatment, the doctors also advised Mr. M and his wife to have a reproductive function examination, especially the wife, to find the best solution.
According to Dr. Duy, statistics show that 30%-40% of the causes of sexual dysfunction are due to psychological causes.
In particular, the state of prolonged stress due to psychological abuse from the family is currently on the rise.
“Sexual violence is not only through actions, but also through the words and attitudes of the wife, making the husband more self-conscious, anxious, and even depressed. Incompatibility or disagreement in sexual relations between husband and wife should require timely support from a medical facility with experts in gender medicine and psychology,” Dr. Duy emphasized.
