After 16 years of rowing, including 2 times reaching the standard but missing the Olympic tournament, mother of one Pham Thi Hue still persistently pursued her passion. At the age of 34, the female rower from Quang Binh finally had the joy and fulfilled her dream when she won a ticket to the Paris Olympics. Nearly a week after arriving in France with expert Donnelly Joseph Ignatius, Pham Thi Hue took the bus every day for 1 hour to the training location to have the best preparation. She focused her determination on the competition taking place today in the qualifying round of the women’s heavyweight single sculls, facing strong opponents from Germany, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, and Singapore.
Also today, mother of two Ha Thi Linh entered the 60 kg boxing competition. At the age of 31, the boxer from Lao Cai still maintains a strong physical foundation. The coaches could not help but admire Linh when witnessing her overcome strong and young opponents with high competition intensity (1 match per day for 5 days) to win a ticket to the Paris Olympics. Her tenacious fighting spirit and never giving up helped Ha Thi Linh have sharp counterattacks to win. She is expected to bring out her full potential to conquer each opponent.
Another female boxer, Vo Thi Kim Anh, also competed in the 54 kg weight class. To develop her career to the top, Kim Anh left her hometown of An Giang to Hanoi for a long-term training. The sacrifices and hardships of this 27-year-old boxer were rewarded with a ticket to Paris. Attending the Olympics for the first time, Kim Anh confidently said she would compete fairly with her opponent.
Also competing today at the Paris Olympics are other “female generals” such as Hoang Thi Tinh in judo (48 kg weight class), Trinh Thu Vinh in shooting (women’s 10 m air pistol). Both had an impressive journey to conquer the Olympic ticket, then were given the opportunity to train and compete internationally to hone their skills, ready to conquer the Olympics.
The “weaker sex” is shouldering a great responsibility with Vietnamese sports in the biggest arena on the planet. It would be wonderful if the ladies shine, bringing Vietnamese sports the first medal at the Paris Olympics.
On July 27, pho will be served at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On July 26, there will be vegetarian spring rolls. The Olympics food service area has a total of 6 main restaurants, including European/Asian/Halal/… areas and about 11 side areas such as street food, sandwiches, burgers, sweets, coffee,…
Especially in the Asian section, on July 27, there will be pho as “Soup of the day”, served in 3 main meals. Nutritional information of the dish is published on the system, helping participants to refer to it. Vegetarian spring rolls are served in the Asian and Street food sections.
It is quite exciting to see Vietnamese food included in world sporting events, as one of the priorities of sports nutrition practice is to create conditions for athletes to eat the food they are most familiar with. It is also great that foreign athletes get to know and try Vietnamese food, not to mention that pho is a carbohydrate-rich dish and suitable for the pre-competition period.
Another surprise is the spring roll, although it is vegetarian, but usually in foreign countries they call it Spring Roll or Chinese Spring Roll. But at Olympics they clearly write “nem” and describe it as “Vietnamese culinary”. The ingredients are also clearly listed and suggested options for vegetarians.
