Former US President Donald Trump recently told a surprising story in which he said he almost died while riding in a helicopter with Willie Brown, former Mayor of San Francisco and ex-boyfriend of Vice President Kamala Harris. However, according to The New York Times on August 9, Mr. Trump’s story is inaccurate in many ways. In fact, the person riding in the helicopter with Mr. Trump was not Willie Brown but former California Governor Jerry Brown, and the two men do not look alike.
Trump said the helicopter had to make an emergency landing during a flight he was on with Willie Brown. However, according to California Governor Gavin Newsom, who was also on the flight, there was no emergency and the passengers were never in danger. The flight took place in 2018, when Trump, Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom traveled to Paradise to survey the damage from the Camp Fire.
During a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, Trump brought up the former relationship between Kamala Harris and Willie Brown, saying that he had been on a helicopter ride with Brown. Trump described the situation as “we thought it was over,” referring to the emergency landing. He also claimed that Willie Brown had told him negative things about Harris.
However, after Trump told the story, a reporter contacted Willie Brown, who said the entire story was untrue. He said his relationship with Kamala Harris ended nearly 30 years ago and that he has always supported Harris. Gavin Newsom also denied Trump’s story, saying that no one discussed Harris during the helicopter ride, and he laughed as he called Trump’s press conference “an act of desperation.”
