Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is safe after two men exchanged gunfire Sunday outside his golf club in Florida, the New York Post reported, citing law enforcement sources.
Earlier, Mr Trump’s campaign said he was safe after a shooting within close range of him but did not provide details.
“Sources said Mr Trump was never in danger,” the paper reported.
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Representatives from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Mr Trump was wounded in an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on July 13, just months before what is expected to be a closely contested election on November 5, when he will face Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.
The first shooting of a US president or major party presidential candidate in more than four decades was believed to have stemmed from a security breach, leading to the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle amid bipartisan pressure in Congress.
Mr Trump was wounded in the right ear and a campaigner was killed in the shooting.
The gunman, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, was shot dead by a Secret Service sniper.
