Former US President Donald Trump has commented on the crisis in Ukraine, asserting that he has a plan to end the war but will only reveal it if he is elected in the 2024 presidential election. In an interview on Lex Fridman’s podcast on September 3, Mr. Trump said that if he won the election, he would secure a deal to prevent the war between Ukraine and Russia, emphasizing that this was “a war that should not have happened.”
Mr Trump said he had a “very precise plan” to resolve the conflict, but could not reveal details publicly for fear of spoiling the plan by announcing it in advance. He also hinted at having a “certain idea” about how to deal with China, but declined to provide further details.
Mr Trump’s remarks have drawn criticism, especially from political opponents. Vice President Kamala Harris has condemned Mr Trump’s frequent praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin, especially amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
In the podcast, Mr. Trump also accused Ukraine of covering up the number of deaths in the war, claiming that the actual number was “much higher” than what is known. However, he did not provide evidence for this assertion and the Ukrainian government did not respond to Mr. Trump’s statement.
Trump’s comments continue to fuel controversy over his approach to the war in Ukraine, as well as his views on the relationship between the United States and Russia. As the 2024 presidential election approaches, his views on foreign policy will be among the key issues that voters will pay attention to.
