LONG AN, Vietnam (NV) – On July 9, while serving a four-year prison sentence, prisoner Le Thanh Nhat Nguyen in Hoa Khanh Tay commune, Duc Hoa district, was prosecuted by the Long An Provincial Police Security Investigation Agency for the crime of “fraudulent appropriation of property.”
Mr. Le Thanh Nhat Nguyen, 33 years old, is the son of Mr. Le Tung Van, 90 years old, owner of Tinh That Bong Lai and later changed the name to Thien Am Ben Bo Vu Tru.
According to Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper, the reason for the prosecution was because the Security Investigation Agency received a complaint from the victims about the people living at Ms. Cao Thi Cuc’s house in Lap Thanh hamlet, Hoa Khanh Tay commune, “having acts of pretending to be temples, pretending to be monks, pretending to be orphans to defraud and appropriate property from benefactors at Tinh That Bong Lai.”
According to the Security Investigation Agency, two years ago the police received a complaint from the victims about the incident. However, for many reasons, the case was later temporarily suspended.
In early July, the Security Investigation Agency decided to reopen the investigation of the case.
“Initially, there is enough evidence to determine that Le Thanh Nhat Nguyen committed fraud and property appropriation. We will inform you of the details later,” said the leader of the Long An Police Investigation Security Agency.
According to VNExpress newspaper, in the appeal hearing on November 3, 2022, the Long An Provincial Court rejected the appeal for injustice, upholding the five-year prison sentence for defendant Le Tung Van for the crime of “abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the state, the rights and legitimate interests of organizations and individuals.”
The remaining defendants include Le Thanh Hoan Nguyen, Le Thanh Nhat Nguyen, and Le Thanh Trung Duong, each sentenced to four years in prison; Le Thanh Nhi Nguyen to three years and six months in prison; and Cao Thi Cuc to three years in prison for the same crime.
The verdict determined that from 2019 to 2021, Mr. Van directed Mr. Le Thanh Hoan Nguyen and Mr. Le Thanh Nhat Nguyen to create the YouTube accounts 5 Chu Tieu-Thien Am Ben Bo Vu Tru and Nhat Nguyen-Hoan Nguyen Official.
“The defendants filmed, staged, and posted many videos with content that negatively affected public opinion, provided false information; insulted the honor and reputation of groups and individuals, and directly violated the Duc Hoa District Police, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Long An Province, etc.,” the indictment stated.
In mid-April, Mr. Le Tung Van was again prosecuted and released on bail to investigate the crime of “incest” while living at Ms. Cao Thi Cuc’s house. However, the details of this accusation were not clarified. (Tr.N) [qd]
