On August 6, the Investigation Police Agency of Ba Ria City Police, Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Tran Dang Duc (born in 1980) for the crime of “Forgery in work”.
Duc was formerly a second-class inspector of the Department of Fisheries, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.
Through investigation, the Department of Fisheries is a type II fishing vessel inspection facility, with the function of inspecting fishing vessels with a maximum length of less than 24m.
During February 2023, Duc took advantage of his position as an inspector to create documents such as technical inspection records of fishing vessels, technical safety certificates of fishing vessels, and registration certificates for fishing vessels that were not in accordance with regulations, violating the fisheries law and implementing guidelines.
Duc’s actions were determined to have damaged the reputation and proper operation of state agencies and organizations; and disrupted the quota structure of fishing licenses that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development had assigned to Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.
Especially during the period when Ba Ria – Vung Tau province and the whole country are promoting solutions to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, determined to remove the “yellow card” warning of the European Commission (EC).
On the same day, authorities executed a search warrant at Duc’s residence and workplace.
Currently, the case is being further investigated and handled by the Investigation Police Agency of Ba Ria City Police according to the provisions of law.
