Yoo Ah In regrets, promises to change
The afternoon session of July 24 focused on reviewing the prosecution’s evidence documents, skipping the questioning of the defendant.
The prosecution proposed sentencing the “movie king” to four years in prison, a fine of 2 million won and an additional fine of 1.54 million won.
Faced with a 4-year prison sentence, Yoo Ah In expressed remorse and apologized to the public and those involved:
“I have deeply reflected on my wrongdoings and would like to sincerely apologize to everyone. The incident has given me time to reflect on my entire life.
I promise to change, to become a more honest and responsible citizen to myself and society, regardless of the results today.”
Yoo Ah In’s “movie king” image collapsed in the public eye after he was caught up in a series of drug scandals.
The actor used four types of medical drugs including propofol, midazolam, ketamine and remimazolam 181 times from September 2020 to March 2022, and prescribed and purchased sleeping pills under the name of others 44 times.
He is also accused of forcing others to smoke marijuana during a trip to the US in January 2023.
In previous trials, Yoo Ah In admitted to using illegal drugs but denied charges of inciting others to smoke marijuana and destroying evidence.
During the fifth trial, Yoo Ah In convinced a psychiatrist to testify, who said he had prescribed medication containing medical drugs to the actor because he suffered from severe depression.
