Cambodia won its first Southeast Asian Games basketball gold medal with a 20-15 victory over the Philippines on Sunday.
When the final buzzer sounded, the crowd packed into the Molodok Notebook Elephant Hall celebrated the country’s first gold medal in a half-court match.
The host nation fielded three naturalized athletes in Brandon Peterson, Said Prigity and Darin Dorsey, and quickly lost their place after Cambodia rejected the Filipino’s attempt to regain the gold medal they last won in Manila in 2019. It produced results.
The quartet of Armond Bosotros, Joseph Eliob, Joseph Sedulifa and Larvin Flores won the silver medal after playing catch-up for most of the match against the Cambodian national team.

The Philippine national team was unable to display the same strength against the host nation as they did in their come-from-behind 21-19 victory over champion Thailand in the semifinals.
